ROLE OF A SPORT ADMINISTRATOR (PODSCBRE)

A sport administrator performs the following functions

Planning: It involves decision policy making.
(a) it is the duty of the sports administrator to outline the work in a logical and purposeful way.
(b)The method to be used to perfect work should be stipulated.
(c) This states that the administrator must understand the aims and objectives of the sports organization and must have for-sight i.e should be able to assess or guess what will happen in years to come.

Organizing: It refers to the development of formal structure of operation to be done. The structure will throw other things.
·         Various centres for operation – units sub units, divisions etc.
·         It should show assignment to specify responsibilities/duties
·         It should also show co-ordinating
·         Standards expected of workers
·         It should show immediate and long objective to be achieved. Both by individual groups and the organization as a whole
·         Timing and scheduling, having a time.

Directing: This is also an important function of a sports administrator as leader: he/she must lead and direct operation or establishments.

Supervising: This entails the director moving around to see everybody doing what they are expected to do at the appropriate time.

Coordinating: This is where leaders are recognized. The links of various unit must be harmonized to ensure success. This could be done through meetings of personnel make sure various activities are co-ordinated. Misunderstanding may occur if there is no co-ordinating.

Budgeting: It is the financial planning for the sports organization. Good financial planning eliminates most of the financial challenges likely to face the organization. It involves your expenditure and your income which can be given by club owners, investors or the government.

Reporting: The sports administrator should give the progress so far made within the organization. Report on annual activities within the organization.

Evaluating: Evaluating is a process of assessing performances as related to individual and group efforts within the organisation. Evaluate the whole establishment; know why you have achieved desired goals or why you did not. Identify factors that can be responsible for success and failures.
